About

We are a purebred, conservation kennel committed to breeding collies (rough and smooth) to the American collie breed standard, never compromising on health, temperament, or structure. As most of our puppies go to family pet homes, we make every effort to breed excellent companion dogs who will be sure to bring much joy into the lives of their respective families. Many of our puppies will also grow up to do quite well in the areas of agility, herding, obedience, rally, therapy, and tracking. We are committed to an integral breeding program which includes a low coefficient of inbreeding (COI), comprehensive health, and extensive DNA screening. It is our goal in adhering to these strict breeding practices to produce the healthiest, highest quality family, and performance dogs, true to the American collie breed standard.

If you are interested in a puppy or available older dog from Glenelg Kennels, please email us to see about getting on our wait list. We do not send out applications until puppies are on the ground but contact and send out applications after puppies are born. Please be assured that all information is kept confidential and will never be shared with anyone. Our commitment is to place our puppies and dogs in residences with people who understand the responsibility of dog guardianship. In those rare circumstances where the placement does not work out for any reason, we require that our dogs be sent back to us and never placed in a shelter or with the humane society.

All puppies are placed in homes as “companion only”. This means you are left to decide if you wish to pursue showing your dog in conformation or not. As puppies can oftentimes take up to two years to mature, it is little more than an educated guess as to what the puppy will look like as an adult. If it is your intent to show, our contract may reflect that intent with special co-ownership considerations. HOWEVER, those puppies that are decidedly “companion/pet” quality, i.e., they have a fault which would disqualify them from the show ring, we will place on a contract that requires the puppy get either a tubal ligation/spay or vasectomy/neuter as appropriate. It must be noted that features that would disqualify these puppies for show are merely cosmetic in nature and have nothing to do with their quality of health. Additionally, under an AKC limited registration, they are still qualified for (and are encouraged to) participate in other AKC events to include Agility, Herding, Obedience, Rally, and Tracking.

** WE DO NOT ACCEPT DEPOSITS. Upon acceptance of your application we will add your name to a waiting list.
Due to the number of requests we have had for puppies we would appreciate it you would notify us if you are no longer interested in a dog or puppy.
