APPLICATION -- GLENELG COLLIES PATH TO PUPPY / DOG GUARDIANSHIP
If you are interested in a puppy or available older dog from Glenelg Kennels, please email or phone us to see about getting on our wait list. We do not send out applications until puppies are on the ground but contact and send out applications after puppies are born. Please be assured that all information is kept confidential and will never be shared with anyone. Our commitment is to place our puppies and dogs in residences with people who understand the responsibility of dog guardianship. In those rare circumstances where the placement does not work out for any reason, we require that our dogs be sent back to us and never placed in a shelter or with the humane society.
All puppies are placed in homes as “companion only”. This means you are left to decide if you wish to pursue showing your dog in conformation or not. As puppies can oftentimes take up to two years to mature, it is little more than an educated guess as to what the puppy will look like as an adult. If it is your intent to show our contract may reflect that intent with special co-ownership considerations. HOWEVER, those puppies that are decidedly “companion/pet” quality, i.e., they have a fault which would disqualify them from the show ring, we will place on a contract that requires the puppy get either a tubal ligation/spay or vasectomy/neuter as appropriate. It must be noted that features that would disqualify these puppies for show are merely cosmetic in nature and have nothing to do with their quality of health. Additionally, under an AKC limited registration, they are still qualified for (and are encouraged to) participate in other AKC events to include Agility, Herding, Obedience, Rally, and Tracking.
** WE DO NOT ACCEPT DEPOSITS. Upon acceptance of your application we will add your name to a waiting list.
Due to the number of requests we have had for puppies we would appreciate it you would notify us if you are no longer interested in a dog or puppy.
EVERY EFFORT has been made to breed healthy dogs and puppies are guaranteed healthy at time of sale. Please make arrangements with your Licensed Canine Veterinarian for a full check-up within 72-hours of receiving your puppy or we will not be able to honor any guarantees. However, if your puppy is diagnosed with a hereditary defect by a Licensed Canine Veterinarian within one year, we will replace her or him with a puppy of equal quality or refund the purchase price. In some cases we may request a second opinion in which case the Buyer will be liable for the added cost.
** IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR A COLLIE AS A COMPANION PET:
We don’t want to just sell you a dog—we want to help you find that ‘forever family member’. We are committed to each and every puppy that we bring in to this world and our responsibility does not end when they leave our home. We prefer email (glenelgcollies@gmail.com) but you can also call us with any questions and concerns you may have about your new family member. We also encourage you to keep in contact with us and let us know how things are going. Additionally, we agree to do the following:

Puppies are assessed by at least two collie breeders, each with over 30-years experience. Keeping in mind THERE IS NO PERFECT DOG, you can expect to be given a fair appraisal of both the qualities as well as the faults of the puppy.
We maintain an equitable Breeder's Contract that stipulates the following:
* Breeder MAY elect to maintain a co-ownership contract until completion of 1st title (Championship) OR it is
determined that the puppy will not meet the criteria to finish.

MDR, DM, and PRA prior to breeding IF the puppy is not clear by parentage.
* In an effort to improve the breed, Buyer agrees to ‘breed-up’ in at least one area: MDR1, CEA, or DM. For example,
if a female is a CEA M/M, MDR1 M/M then she must be bred to a male who is either CEA N/M or MDR1 N/M OR
BETTER.
* In an effort to improve the breed, Buyer agrees that breedings to Glenelg dogs will be done with a maximum COI of
20% based on a 30-generation pedigree.
* NO male will be used for stud or female will be bred before the age of 2-years without prior approval from the
Breeder.
* Breeder agrees to refund for each Performance Title $25.00 up to a maximum of $100.
